The Helicopter Flight Training Program at Canadore College has been operating since 1971 and prepares students for an
exciting career in the aviation industry.

Becoming a Professional Pilot is challenging and exciting - but it also requires hard work and dedication. Hundreds of successful graduates are now employed as helicopter pilots in Canada as well as around the world. Ground school and flight training are designed to provide graduates with the skills and attitude necessary to operate helicopters efficiently and safely in remote and isolated locations throughout the world. The emphasis in our program is on professionalism and learning operational skills.

Canadore College Aviation Campus

Flight Training and ground school subjects are taught at the Canadore College Aviation Campus at the Jack Garland Airport.
This program's partnership provides students with the benefits of a college education combined with practical training.
The blend of academic and practical aspects of helicopter flight training provides students with a balanced training program.
Our Canadore College flight training program offers one course per year on a full time basis.

Each course begins the Tuesday after Labour Day and is completed by the end of April, allowing students to search for employment at a time when the helicopter industry is preparing for its busiest period.

As a student in our Flight Training Program, you can expect unparalleled instruction from some of the most experienced
instructors in the aviation industry. All our Instructors are Transport Canada authorized, and as such maintain the highest
standards of professional flying and instructional ability.

Ground school is a regular scheduled format in a modern well-equipped classroom located at the aviation campus.
Ground school is intensive and covers required aspects of helicopter operations. A variety of additional training components
includes:

- Helicopter landing pad construction

- Standard First Aid and CPR

- Chain Saw operation

- Winter Survival program

- Underwater Egress Training

Some of the courses require the applicants to be aware that they will be participating in strenuous physical activities.

All ground school and flight training will be provided by Transport Canada certified flight instructors and all Transport Canada flight tests and examinations will be administered by a representative of Transport Canada. A fleet of well equipped aircraft and a certified simulator will help you hone your skills.

Graduates from the program will receive a Transport Canada Commercial Helicopter Pilot License with endorsements on the Bell Jet Ranger and the Schweizer 300 helicopter, a Canadore College Pilot Preparedness Certificate and numerous Operational Certificates.
